Piking in the Fens

St. Ives Tackle Team Members have managed to take advantage of the mild weather we have been having during January despite all the flooding in the local area. Martyn Lowe has had his first carp of the year in the shape of a cracking 29lb 12oz Mirror Carp caught after dark on a legered Boilie approach.

The St. Ives Lakes Fishery has also produced it’s first few carp of the year including a fantastic specimen Carp of over 30lb to its captor Lee Price. Lee opted to fish solid PVA bags on the St. Ives Lagoon and was soon rewarded for his efforts.

Shop owner Mickey Bartlett ventured out to a Fenland Drain with his brother Adam for some Pike fishing after their original choice of gravel pit venue was too flooded to fish. This turned out to be a very good decision indeed. At mid-morning Mickey’s Float fished Bluey dead bait was taken and after a short but powerful fight he netted a monster specimen of just over 25lb. January and February are great month’s to be out Pike fishing with a very good chance of catching a big fish.

If you would like any more info on the fishing available in the area, then feel free to pop in and speak to one of our friendly staff or give us a call on 01480 468196. Alternatively check out our website www.stivestackle.co.uk
