How to use Pike Drop-Off Bite Indicators
Drop-off bite indicators also known as drop back indicators are a great way to increase your chances of catching pike on a fishing journey. By understanding where and when to properly use the drop back bite indicators, you can maximise your success rate and land those big pike.
Setting Up Your Drop Off Indicators.
Before you can start legering baits for those big pike, you first need to properly setup your Fox Rage drop-arm bite indicators. To do so, choose and fit one of the provided clips that will attach the drop off indicator to your rear bankstick and clip it on towards the top of the bankstick. Once you have cast out your deadbait and it has settled on the bottom gently tighten your line to the bait before lowering your rod onto a pair of rod rests so that the reel is quite close to the rear rest. You can use a standard front rest or a bite alarm with this setup.
Clipping Your Line To The Drop Arm Indicator
Once you have securely attached your drop-off bite indicator, you will need to clip your line into the adjustable clip on the head of the indicator. With your bale arm closed clip the drop off indicator to your line with the indicator head just below your reel. Once happy with positioning simply open your bale arm and you will see that the drop off prevents any line from spilling off your spool.
Adjust The Position Of Your Drop Off Indicator
One of the most important aspects of your bite indicator setup is getting the position right. It wants to be as close as possible to the reel as when you get a bite it will either pull out of the clip going forwards or mostly you will see the indicator drop to the floor indicating a drop back bite where the pike has moved towards you. Hence the term drop back indicator.
Pay Attention To Movement Indicating a Bite
When using the Fox Rage Drop Arm bite indicator, the most visible sign that you’ve got a pike on the other end is movement of your drop-off. If you see the indicator fall to the floor or pull out of the clip its time to take action!
What To Do When You Get A Bite
When the Fox Drop Arm bite indicator suddenly drops or pulls out of the clip, it's time to take action. Pick up your rod at the first sign of movement and close the bale arm, gently wind down to tension the line before pulling into the fish with a firm strike and play your pike in to the net. You mustn't delay striking due to risk of deep hooking a pike.
